Gardner provided us with that little gem of wisdom on the first day he spent with our class at Clarion West '98. It has since become my mantra, along with the Maxim for Vikings which we adopted even before we got to Clarion, "Whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger." They both come in very handy at times.

 I never thought I'd start a writing journal, but in February I joined the Clarion Alumni Novel Writing Dare VII, and since all my colleagues are posting their progress to journals, I decided to finally set one up for myself.
